Through Penn Libraries, the Penn community has access to vital academic and professional resources related to energy and energy policy, including books, news services, databases and scholarly journals, government and industry reports, and more. SNL Energy
SNL Energy, a product of S&P Global, is a comprehensive resource for data on U.S. and Canadian power plants, energy companies, coal mines, and gas pipelines. Use it to find detailed financials, filings, supply and demand fundamentals, emissions data, hourly market pricing, electricity rates, and more. Consult the daily, weekly, and monthly newsletters to stay current on various segments of the energy industry.
To begin, register for an account and download the Excel add-in needed to pull data from SNL Energy. It is available under Apps on the SNL website. Open Excel and use the DataWizard embedded in the Excel Add-In to access years of historical data about companies, assets, and markets.

In the spirit of Ian McHarg’s renowned philosophy for “Designing with Nature”, The Center’s mission is to build on the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design’s position as a global leader in urban ecological design by bringing environmental and social scientists together with planners, designers, policy-makers, and communities to develop practical, innovative ways of improving the quality of life in the places most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
PennPraxis
PennPraxis supports design action and thought leadership to advance inclusion, innovation, and impact in communities that design doesn’t typically serve. Praxis does projects that demonstrate the power of interdisciplinary design, art, planning, and heritage preservation to respond to the major challenges of the built and natural environments, and the communities that inhabit them. Our projects strengthen the University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design as a school focused on high social impact design. We create opportunities “beyond the market” to help our students develop agency in the world, and we cultivate diversity among the next generation of leaders.
The Center for Environmental Building & Design
The Center for Environmental Building + Design is a faculty-led research and professional services unit at the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design dedicated to improving the environmental future of contemporary buildings and cities. The challenges of environmental design occur at multiple, interacting scales and can only be approached systemically, so CEBD works in interdisciplinary teams on projects at a range of scales. Across Campus
Clean Energy Conversions Lab
The Clean Energy Conversions Lab is a lab under the direction of Jennifer Wilcox, affiliated with the Kleinman Center and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The lab focus on carbon management. Their research can be divided into three enormous problems: How can we limit the atmospheric accumulation of carbon dioxide? What can we do with the carbon dioxide once it’s captured? And will it scale?
The Energy Justice Lab
The Energy Justice Lab is a research collaboration between the University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University (IU), co-directed by David Konisky of IU and Sanya Carley, faculty co-director of the Kleinman Center and Presidential Distinguished Professor of Energy Policy and City Planning at the Stuart Weitzman School of Design. The Lab’s mission is to explore, measure, and improve the equity and justice dimensions of society’s ongoing energy transition.
The Environmental Innovations Initiative
Environmental Innovations Initiative’s vision is to meaningfully impact the critical environmental challenges of our time, particularly climate change, biodiversity loss, and human vulnerability. To accomplish this, the Initiative will bring together scholars, leaders, practitioners, students, community members, and partners around themes of climate action, stewardship of nature, and societal resilience – including equity and inclusion.
The ESG Initiative at the Wharton School
The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Initiative brings together Wharton faculty and students to conduct academically rigorous research, develop new curricular materials, and co-curricular experiences that shape the future of investing, consulting, and strategy on ESG factors.
Penn Office of Sustainability
Penn Sustainability, housed in Facilities and Real Estate Services, is a University-wide initiative to advance environmental sustainability at the University of Pennsylvania, and coordinate programs to develop a more sustainable campus.
Penn Program in Environmental Humanities
Founded in 2014, the Penn Program in Environmental Humanities (PPEH) fosters interdisciplinary environmental collaboration and scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, and beyond. PPEH’s four core commitments include: broadly interdisciplinary, collaborative research on the environment across the arts and sciences; arts-driven inquiry into place, particularly our campus and the City of Philadelphia as well as urban ecology in other global contexts; public engagement, particularly in and with environmental justice communities and concerns; the creation and growth of living archives via practices of urgent collection

The Penn Program on Regulation (PPR) brings rigorous, balanced analysis from multiple disciplines to bear on important regulatory policy problems and alternative strategies to solve them, as well as on the processes of making and implementing regulation.
Penn Institute for Urban Research
The Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR) is dedicated to advancing cross-disciplinary urban-focused research, instruction, and civic engagement on issues relevant to cities around the world. As the global population becomes increasingly urban, understanding cities is vital to informed decision-making and public policy at the local, national, and international levels.
Perry World House
Perry World House is a center for scholarly inquiry, teaching, research, international exchange, policy engagement, and public outreach on pressing global issues. Perry World House’s mission is to bring the academic knowledge of the University of Pennsylvania to bear on some of the world’s most pressing global policy challenges, and to foster international policy engagement within and beyond the Penn community.
The Vagelos Institute for Energy Science and Technology
The Vagelos Institute for Energy Science and Technology was established in 2016 through the generosity of Roy and Diana Vagelos with the vision to make Penn home to one of the premier energy research and technology centers in the nation. In alignment with the Penn School of Arts and Sciences strategic theme of Energy, Sustainability, and the Environment, the Institute brings together the world-class scientists from around the Penn campus to address the challenge of providing the energy that society needs in a way that respects the rights and interests of future generations.
Vagelos Integrated Program in Energy Research (VIPER)
The Vagelos Integrated Program in Energy Research (VIPER) at the University of Pennsylvania is designed to prepare highly talented and motivated students to advance sustainable energy science and technology through interdisciplinary approaches and immersive experiences in cutting edge research, positioning them to become the next generation of energy leaders and innovators.
Since 2019 the University of Pennsylvania has been an official observer to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). As the leading body on campus, the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy serves as the key focal point for all UNFCCC news and meeting information.

- The secretariat is pleased to inform admitted IGOs and admitted NGOs that the timelines for the selection process of side events at the 60th Session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SB 60) have been announced on our official webpage. As indicated on the website, the application period will open on Tuesday, 27 February 2024, and close on Friday, 1 March 2024. Please note that Side Events and Exhibits Online Registration System (SEORS) is the only channel used by the secretariat to receive side event applications. - COP28 Onsite Guide: Important Information. (November 14, 2023)
- The COP 28 host Government has endeavored to secure sufficient hotel rooms for all delegates. Bookings for accommodations are managed by Bnetwork, and the online booking site can be accessed here. The UAE is offering a wide selection of accommodation options to suit every budget. Currently, there are over 800 properties operating in Dubai, ranging from 1-star to 5- star hotels and serviced apartments. Additionally, the UAE’s capital Abu Dhabi, located one hour away from the event venue, features a wide range of accommodation options, with over 230 hotels and resorts plus serviced apartments available, ranging from 1-star to 5-star. Registered participants who have not already done so are urged to book their accommodation for their time at COP 28 as soon as possible. (November 3, 2023)

- On behalf of the co-facilitators of the technical dialogue of the first global stocktake under the Paris Agreement (GST1), the secretariat would like to inform observer organizations admitted by the Conference of the Parties, that their synthesis report of the technical dialogue of the first global stocktake is currently on track to be published on 8 September 2023. As previously indicated, the co-facilitators will be organizing a virtual informal meeting on the summary report following the third meeting of the technical dialogue of GST1 (TD 1.3) at SB58, and the aforementioned synthesis report, which is provisionally planned for Tuesday, 12 September from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Central European Summer Time (TBC). - The UNFCCC Secretariat has informed RINGO of an opportunity for a limited number of researchers working on global stocktake issues to attend a meeting with the co-facilitators of the technical dialogue of the first global stock take. This meeting will take place on Tuesday, 18 January 2021 at 17:00 CET. It will focus on expectations and possible contributions to the meetings of the technical dialogue, which will start in June 2022. To be selected by RINGO to attend this meeting, applicants must already be well informed about the GST and ready to contribute ideas to the discussion. This meeting will not be a briefing from the co-facilitators.
